What We Believe

Emmaus Church is a historic Christian Church rooted in the Baptist and Reformed traditions. Our members agree to unite on the content of the Apostles Creed and the Ligonier Statement on Christology. We find these statements to be faithful summaries of what the Bible teaches about the most essential matters of our faith.

Our Pastors commit to a more detailed Statement of Faith. They agree to teach, preach, and counsel according to the standards expressed in the Pastoral Statement of Faith.

Emmaus Church cooperates in ministry with the Baptist Convention of Iowa and the SEND Network.

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell.

The third day He arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen!

Ligonier Statement on Christology.

We confess the mystery and wonder of God made flesh and rejoice in our great salvation
through Jesus Christ our Lord. With the Father and the Holy Spirit, the Son created all things, sustains all things, and makes all things new. Truly God, He became truly man, two natures in one person.

He was born of the Virgin Mary and lived among us. Crucified, dead, and buried, He rose on the third day, ascended to heaven, and will come again in glory and judgment. For us, He kept the Law, atoned for sin,
and satisfied God’s wrath. He took our filthy rags and gave us His righteous robe.

He is our Prophet, Priest, and King, building His church, interceding for us, and reigning over all things.

Jesus Christ is Lord; we praise His holy Name forever. Amen!
